Dr. Michelle Takes earned her doctorate in Counseling Education and Supervision from Capella University in 2022. She provides counselor education and supervision for counseling interns and temporary-licensed counselors. In 2005, Dr. Takes decided to pursue her long-term vision of becoming a counselor. She graduated from Capella University in 2009 with a Master of Science in Human Services, specializing in Mental Health Counseling, and is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. Before her counseling career, Dr. Takes served in the United States Marine Corps, worked as an Emergency Medical Technician, and worked in the physical health and fitness industry.
During her 18 years of counseling, she has worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings. While working on inpatient units, she provided counseling to children and their families, and to adults; led multiple psychotherapy groups; participated on the eating disorder team; conducted assessments; and provided individual and family counseling, and worked as part of an integrative health program. In 2017, she co-founded Creative Counseling Group and continues to provide counseling at this private practice. As a mental health counselor, she has worked with individuals with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders, body dysmorphic disorder, gender identity, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), adjustment disorders, family and relationship complications.
Dr. Takes utilizes different modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and she specializes in assessing and treating ADHD and is a certified clinical service provider (ADHD-CCSP) for children and adults. Additionally, she is an Accredited Clinical Supervisor (ACS) and has supervised mental health counselors, marriage and family counselors, and nurse practitioner interns for more than 9 years.
In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with her family, camping, boating, attending to her garden and yard, working out, and spending time with her Corgi, Lola. As a busy mom, wife, and counselor, she follows her own advice and works hard to maintain a healthy, positive work/life balance.
